Your Credit Report Rights

Know the Facts

As a credit reference agency we collect public and credit data to produce credit reports and credit scores. These are then used by responsible lenders to make decisions about whether to give someone credit. But did you know you also have the right to access your personal credit information?

By law you have the right to request a Statutory Credit Report for £2. This is posted to you within 7 working days of receipt of your request and payment.

Your Statutory Rights Include the Right to:

  • To receive a copy of your Statutory Credit Report within 7 working days of receipt of your request and payment
  • Dispute inaccurate information on your credit file
  • Have errors corrected within 28 days.

Under the Data Protection Act, Equifax is permitted by law to charge you £2 for each request you make for your Statutory Credit Report.

Equifax Credit Rating™

Alternatively you may want to think about applying for a copy of your Equifax Credit Rating™ which gives you instant access to your credit score and to your Equifax Credit Report conveniently online. The key factor most lenders use to rate a potential borrower is your credit score. So it makes sense to know your personal credit score and to understand how lenders see you based on this score before you apply for credit. Equifax Credit Rating™ gives you just this.

Equifax Credit Rating™ gives you instant online access to:

  • An easy-to-understand explanation of your score and how lenders see you
  • Score Performance Indicators that show how you rate in each category of information used to create your score
  • Specific ways to improve your score and therefore your ability to obtain the credit you want at a favourable lending rate
  • Access to additional help online and through our Customer Care team.
