Identity fraud is a crime that can affect millions of people across the country, with personal details being shared by fraudsters online. Identity fraud is what happens after a criminal has stolen someone’s identity and includes acts like opening new bank accounts or accessing existing credit.
We examine some figures from an Equifax survey and from Cifas, a fraud prevention organisation, to look at the wider picture. We also look at how identity theft happens and what you can do to prevent it.
